Press Release6 June 2007Winter weather puts Western Cape blood supplies under pressure The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS) has issued a call to all Capetonians to help alleviate pressure on the province's blood supply by attending donation clinics. The current cold spell and an increasing number of regular donors suffering from colds and flu have impacted negatively on the Service's O blood group stocks, which currently stand on a four day supply. All other blood groups (A, B, AB) are all fully stocked with a full seven day supply in the blood banks. WPBTS has stepped up its clinic schedule with a number of additional donation sessions planned for the next two months to counter the accumulative effect that decreasing collection numbers have had on its stock. Any healthy person, especially those belonging to the O blood group, who would like to donate is encouraged to do so and can go the WPBTS Donor Centre at 22 Long Street, Cape Town or call the WPBTS on tel (021) 507 6300 / 6364 to find out about a clinic in their area. For more information, contact the Western Province Blood Transfusion Services on tel (021) 507 6300, e-mail info@wpbts.org.za or visit www.wpblood.org.za | ||||
