Press Release25 June 2008Western Cape blood supply under pressure as school holiday looms The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS) has issued a call to all Capetonians to attend its blood donation clinics to avoid shortages during the upcoming school holiday. The current cold spell has already impacted negatively on the Service's O and B blood group stocks which currently stand on just over a three day or 65% supply for the province. Pressure is expected to increase with the start of the winter school holiday that begins this Friday (27.06.08).
A five day supply is considered ideal and volunteers are called upon to help WPBTS alleviate pressure on the province's blood supply by attending donation sessions at the Kenilworth and Cape Gate Shopping Centres this coming weekend.
Friday 27 June 2008
Saturday, 28 June 2008 WPBTS will be stepping up its regular schedule with a number of additional and extended donation sessions over the next two months to counter the cumulative effect that decreasing collection numbers will have on its stock. Any healthy person, especially those belonging to the O or B blood group can contact the WPBTS on tel (021) 507 6300 / 6364 for more information about donation clinics in their area.
